Historique :	Antonio Ciseri mena une brillante carrière à Florence, et réalisa une oeuvre considérable orientée vers le portrait et les sujets religieux, qui le plaça parmi les meilleurs représentants de la peinture académique italienne. Le Denier de César de Blaru, dont l'auteur a été identifié récemment, était considéré comme perdu. Ce tableau fut commandé à Ciseri en 1860 par l'avocat suisse, Bartholomeo Rusca, pour l'église de la Madonna del Sasso à Locarno. Mais finalement, il le vendit à l'équatorien Miguel de Luzarraga, résidant à Paris. Le tableau figura au salon de 1875, puis l'on perdit sa trace. Ce tableau n'apparaît pas dans l'inventaire de 1906 de l'ancienne église de Blaru. Il doit s'agir du tableau peint par Ciseri vers 1862-63 vendu à un équatorien vivant à Paris, Miguel Luzarraga, exposée au Salon de 1875.
